Screenwriter & Author
Elizabeth Sanders is an American screenwriter and author. Her most recent work is the film CAUSEWAY starring Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry, produced by A24 and distributed by Apple Films. She is also the author of the indie novel The Last Light (Chin Music Press 2015).
Her work has been described as naturalism that is poetic but unsentimental and pauses on places where nature and humanity collide. She is compelled by stories of raw, complicated characters (often women), their complex family dynamics, and natural landscapes that lend itself to excavating their lives.
Her quiet narratives often explore the themes of isolation, loneliness, and survival. They strive to unearth untold or mis-told histories. And her characters often use humor as lifebuoys in her dark tales of human endurance. She’s further interested in telling stories about vulnerable communities, threatened by ecological or economic crises.
She graduated from Fordham University and has an MFA in writing from The New School. She grew up in New Orleans and lives in Brooklyn with her husband, photojournalist Lukas Greyson, and two daughters.

ABBY AGUIRRE, VOGUE
His tragedy happened on the causeway, and yet — to put a finer point on this than Neugebauer’s gentle film ever does — it’s the roads that Lynsey and James pave for each other that lead them over their lowest points.
